Why are we still treating menstruation like a secret?

With 15 million people menstruating in the UK, the stigma around periods keeps far too many silent, preventing them from accessing the products, help, and care they need:

  • 1.4 million people in the UK couldn’t get period products last year.

  •

65% of secondary school students feel we're not getting better at talking about periods, citing discomfort and fear of being ridiculed.

  • Only 37% of people feel comfortable chatting with their GP about their periods.

We’re not just flipping the script - we’re rewriting the book.

It’s time to break the silence and change the narrative around menstruation. Join the revolution and help normalise periods and advocate for menstrual equity. The silence ends when we speak up.

What does the revolution look like? We’re glad you asked, hun:

“If someone told me that they were embarrassed to talk about periods, then I would tell them that I used to be like you. I was so shy, so afraid…so ashamed. I was using cloth and tissues [for my period]. They were not good for me and gave me rashes. I didn’t have a choice. If people spoke about periods, I would leave the conversation.

Bloody Good Period has opened my eyes and given me the confidence to talk about periods. Everytime we meet, I get more confident and the fear disappears. I would now say to anyone embarrassed to talk about periods, be proud of yourself. Be proud of your periods.”
